NEP is a game changer for Indian education system: UGC chairman Dr DP Singh

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Prof. D.P. Singh has said the Indian Education System is witnessing manifold changes with the launch of National Education Policy 2020. He said that NEP has been designed to instill among the learners a deep-rooted pride in being Indian, not only in thought, but also in spirit, intellect, and deeds, as well as to develop knowledge, skills and values.

Dr DP Singh, who attended the Vignan University convocation as chief guest on Friday, suggested students not follow the crowd and make their own path through creative ideas. He observed that the graduates should keep in mind that innovative brains will only reach the pinnacle of success. “It is a matter of great appreciation that even during the pandemic, our institutions have continued with uninterrupted teaching-learning activities and performed their educational responsibilities”, said Dr Singh.

Vignan university chairman Dr Lavu Rathaiah asked the students to keep themselves relevant to the future, keep learning and be updated. He suggested students to come up with more and more low-cost solutions to overcome challenges and make the fruits of development available to all, particularly in the sectors of health, education, and economy so that the living standard of the common people can be uplifted. He also suggested students to enhance their technical prowess and always strive to uphold the value system by cherishing the Sanatana Dharma. He said that children belonging to the affluent and privileged sections of the society were able to seamlessly switch over to the online mode of learning, while a large percentage of children going to government-funded public schools could not do the same, simply because they lacked a smartphone or a computer. “It is expected to get further accelerated with the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in every walk of life be it health, education, or delivery of justice”, Dr Rathaiah said. Vignan group vice-chairman and MP Lavu Sri Krishnadevaraya said that he was witnessing future leaders among the graduates. He observed that the batch of 2020 has indeed made history because it is perhaps the only batch that went to their work before formally receiving their degrees.

Founder Director, Student’s Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), Sonam Wangchuk, Ketogenic dietician Veeramachaneni Rama Krishna were conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees(Honoris Causa). Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Kwon Young-seup, Chancellor Dr K Rammurthy Naidu, vice-chancellor Dr MYS Prasad, registrar Dr MS Raghunathan were also present.
