In a major push to scale up collaborations between Indian and foreign institutions in higher education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has reached out to almost 500 foreign universities, situated across the US, UK, Europe and East Asia.
The commission now plans to hold a meeting with the heads of foreign missions in India to debate the probabilities of tie-ups in line with the just lately notified rules on twinning programmes, joint diploma and twin diploma programmes that will probably be relevant from the tutorial 12 months 2022-23.
“We have also sent them (foreign institutions) a listing of eligible Indian universities with whom MoUs can be signed. We have now not written to any universities in China though a few of their universities fulfil the eligibility standards,” UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar advised.
