According to the draft guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), students can directly gain admission to the second, third, or fourth year of undergraduate courses or the second year of postgraduate programs under the entry and exit rules, provided they meet specific criteria.
On Thursday, the UGC released guidelines introducing several changes, including allowing admissions to universities and colleges twice a year. As part of the comprehensive reforms in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs, students will now have the option to pursue two degrees simultaneously. The guidelines also propose changes in eligibility criteria for UG and PG courses.
Students will have the flexibility to choose any course at the UG or PG level, irrespective of their previous qualifications. The draft proposes that students from any stream can enroll in any UG course, provided they qualify for the relevant national-level entrance exam. This means students can opt for a UG course in any subject, even if they didn’t study it in their 12th grade. The 12th-grade stream will no longer matter, and students can apply for UG or PG programs in any field without being restricted by their prior subjects.
